Founded in 2004, the International Center for Eco-Culture Studies is an organization that undertakes research and international exchange programs in the field of ecological culture, with the aim being to promote ecological cultures of various ethnic and racial groups, and to enhance people's understanding of the meaning of ecological culture to development of contemporary society, so as to push forward the development of the subject and make contributions to sustainable development. Since its establishment, the center has collaborated with The University of Tokyo and the Japanese Institute for Agriculture, Forestry, and Aquatic Products in such programs as Sustainable Utilization of Communal Resources in Yunnan's Rural Areas, and hosted the Seminar on Japan's New Agriculture and Agricultural Policy for the government of Xishan District, Kunming. In 2005 it
co-sponsored the international conference on "Water Culture and Water Environment Protection" with the government of Xishan District and Kunming Municipal Bureau of Dianchi Protection, which produced considerable feedbacks from home and abroad. The center will continue to cooperate with international counterparts in conducting joint research programs, holding training workshops, and publishing and extending research findings, while concentrating on construction of ecological Culture in both urban and rural areas.
