The Instiute of Religious Studies held scientific research meeting and
made the decision to begin the project of "specific history of religion in Yunnan province".
Religious Studies
The Institute of Religious Studies has 8 staff members: 2 are professors,4 associate professors and 2 assistants. It mainly does researches about Buddhism in Yunnan (Buddhism from Han Dynasty, Mahayana and Hinayana), Christianity and Catholicism, Islam, Taoism and primitive religious theories of Yunnan ethnic groups; relationships between religion and border minorities and their social development; religious theory study. We have unique advantage in studying how three world's top religions spread in Yunnan and its history, ethnic religions and their original religious cultures, relationships between religion and society in Yunnan. The academic achievements are highly respected in the whole country. Major books published are Series of Religion and Culture Study of Yunnan and Encyclopaedia of Chinese Original Religion.
